A Chance to be Super.
Everyone wants a chance to be super. Comics have always been a way for people to somewhat leave the real world and explore the world of fantastical heroes, larger than life and wielding powers beyond our understanding. Marvel Rivals is a free to play hero shooter (akin to Team Fortress 2 and the Overwatch series) starring the biggest stars of the titular Marvel universe. Spider-Man, Thor, Jeff, Captain America, Groot, Squirrel Girl, and other popular heroes. Or if you are feeling more villainous, you can also play as villains like Loki and Ultron.
The game’s fanbase has plenty of support from its artistic community who enjoys drawing these designs for Marvel’s iconic characters, as well as the more competitive side of the fanbase focused on small matches with online friends or the more hardcore match players who seek to somehow organize the most optimal team that they can achieve. Like any game within this genre, there is a lot of fast paced action. Marvel Rivals bolsters support for both Playstation and XBox controllers, so finding the best control settings for a game like this is paramount to your success in all those ranked matches you will find yourself in.
Before even starting the game, you will need to have the right setup for Rivals to function properly. You will need;

The characters you play as can and will affect your gaming experience in any and all competitive games. In order to differentiate its characters, most hero shooters tend to separate characters into different classes. Marvel Rivals is no different in this regard. Characters in this game can be separated into three classes; supporting strategists, tanky vanguards, and damaging duelists. Each character has their own unique mechanics, but they all generally fall under one of these three categories. In fact, some characters work well together to the point they have specific attacks that only work with these characters (a good example being the Incredible Hulk having the ability to pick up and throw Wolverine directly at people).
When choosing your settings, you may want to consider how this may affect which characters you play due to certain characters being faster than others, correlating with the class you select. You are probably not going to play a vanguard character like the Hulk and play on minimum sensitivity and find yourself barely moving, nor would you play a character who’s known for being fast like Spider-Man with max sensitivity and end up flying all over the arena until you suddenly launch yourself off the edge. You can choose to either pick a character based upon gameplay and strategy, or you can simply pick Captain America because you like Captain America. Regardless of the reason, your character and play style should be at least considered when calibrating your game’s control settings.

Any good squad in Marvel Rivals is like any other team, only as good as its weakest member. When playing on a more competitive team, you must be absolutely certain that your control setup is optimal for you. While most people will simply play with the default settings and simply adapt to it, there is a very good chance that you will adjust the game settings to make the experience easier for you. Some of the most important settings for the game include the sensitivity and controller rumble.
Some players may find themselves shutting the controller rumble off entirely as to ensure it does not distract them. Competitive players love to be “in the zone” as they say. You could turn it on for the sake of “immersion” or what have you, but most opt out of that.
Sensitivity settings are frankly subjective to what you are used to playing. As mentioned when talking about certain characters, some characters are faster than others and as such have their speeds affected by said sensitivity. Make sure that the vertical and horizontal sensitivities are relatively close to one another.
This may shock you to absolutely no degree whatsoever, but aiming is very important in a hero shooter. Since players in Marvel Rivals are known for moving around constantly, turning on features like aim assist and crosshairs for these matches will certainly play to your advantage. While some players may be seasoned enough to not need them, that does not mean that you have to refuse them.
Another thing to consider is that as mentioned earlier, this game is compatible with PC, XBox, and Playstation controls. You might want to know ahead of playing which set up is best for you. Luckily we have an article that can help you with sorting out just that. Controllers being smaller than the standard keyboard can allow you to have faster and easier access to the actions at your disposal. However as expressed multiple times throughout this very article, there is heavy subjectivity and adaptation when it comes to controller setup. You can be better suited for a keyboard or a controller.

As has been a present theme throughout this very article, Marvel Rivals is a multiplayer game. The game has a heavy focus on teamwork in both completing stage objectives and taking down members of the enemy team. That, and as mentioned earlier, some characters have moves literally built with collaboration in mind. As such, it definitely does not hurt to build camaraderie with your teammates. Get your friends together and coordinate yourselves through Discord. If you cannot do that, then you can simply join an online game with online game chat.
By coordinating with your team and creating effective strategies using the various playable heroes and villains, you can create an effective unit when it comes to fulfilling the various objectives you will find when going deep into this game’s sprawling competitive circuit. Collaboration is a very important skill in life, and even an online co-op game can help contribute to this.
At the end of the day, while these controls tend to be some of the most popular control settings, there are no specific laws for more subjective areas of life, especially when it comes to the control settings of a video game that you can play either competitively or just with your close friends and family. You may even find yourself turning sensitivity all the way up or down for the simple reason that you enjoy playing it that way. Heck, you and your friends could simply play a local match with you and your friends’ sensitivity and rumble all the way up with everyone playing as either Spider-Man or Jeff while you all laugh over a group chat. Games like this are more or less meant to be one big playground for folks to above all else; have an absolute blast.
Really the main takeaway from all of this should simply be the fact that whatever settings you play on, you should choose a playstyle that works best for you and one that you can adapt to with enough time and practice dedicated to it.
