ESG Quick Review:

Everyone can agree that the best time in your life to game is when you’re young, when the only thing you have to worry about is getting your homework done on time and the rest of your night can be spent gaming with your friends. So what better way to help your gamer kid make the most of their youth than with these gifts to supplement their experience and indulge their interests?

If you’re looking for gifts for a gamer kid, you’ve come to the right place, because we have six must-have items right here.

#1: Fun Gamer Apparel

Silly gamer shirts have popped up in many places online as memes, sporting ironic phrases such as “I paused my game to be here,” or “I am gamer not because I don’t have a life, but because I choose to have many.” No matter what you may think about these shirts, your kid is sure to love them.

There are many options for this kind of apparel that your kid might like, other than shirts. Fun shorts or socks or hats are just a couple of a wide breadth of options that you can choose from if your kid wants to outfit themselves in fun gamer apparel. And not all of them sport phrases or sentiments that some might find uncomfortable or awkward, a cool controller symbol or even something more abstract like the X, circle, square, and triangle symbols that fill PlayStation’s branding make for frankly awesome shirts that your kid will enjoy wearing.

#2: Cool Controller

If your kid loves games that are played with controllers, they could benefit from better or more fun controllers depending on the system they play on or what they need. Basic PlayStation or Xbox controllers have many different variations online with unique and mesmerizing color schemes that can inspire your kid to get their game on. Some of these controllers have transparent or glowing options to enrapture a kid’s attention. Kids love things that glow!

If your kid plays on the Nintendo Switch, getting them controller grip covers is an awesome gift that can make gaming with the joy-cons more bearable, seeing as how sometimes they are difficult to control on their own. Especially with the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, a gift like this can go a long way. You may even want to simply invest in more joy-cons so that your kid can play with more friends!

There are also unique types of controllers for every system, if you want to check those out.

#3: New Systems or Consoles

If your kid is a PC gamer, there is nothing better you can do for them than investing in a custom PC. Buying your kid a good PC is a good step, but by teaching them how to build their own PC and getting them the materials they need to construct their own setups is a good skill to have in the real world and will give them inspiration to keep gaming in the future. If you don’t know anything about this, there are a lot of places online to learn about custom PC setups, and they are all incredible resources.

In terms of consoles, if you can afford it, it’s always great to keep your kid up to date with the newest available consoles and materials. This gives your kid the opportunity to experience new technology and understand the devices they play on to their fullest potential. If they’re old enough, it’s worth considering something like a VR headset purely because they’re awesome.

#4: Gaming Chair

All good gamers have a classic gaming chair, like the ones you always see online. Your kid, assuming they have access to the internet, may or may not want one of these chairs for themselves. These chairs are cool, but they are also good for your back if you use them well. Sitting in front of a screen for hours at a time can end up being harmful to your body if you aren’t careful, and one of these chairs can lead to better back health in the long run.

There are a couple default brands of these chairs, but there are also many less popular ones that work just as well, so don’t be afraid to search online for ones that fit your price range. And if you don’t end up going with one of the classic styles, a chair that provides lumbar support is a simple thing to buy anyway, and it’s a great investment in general.

#5: Lego Sets

A good way to indulge your gamer kid’s interests is to get them real life toys that engage them through gaming. Legos are good for smaller kids in terms of psychological development, but they also can help bring gaming interests into real life, especially looking at all of the Lego video games that exist. Physical toys keep a kid grounded in real life, which is important if they have  a hobby that takes place exclusively on a digital platform.

The Minecraft sets in particular are fun tributes to the game and are relatively easy to build, but there are additional crossover Lego sets for Sonic, Fortnite, and many others that are all great gifts for your child.

#6: Headset

Quality audio is an excellent thing to have in many games, especially if your kid plays competitive games that rely on listening to the game and other players. They will appreciate it and their gaming experience will be better for it.

And for gaming with friends, a headset is the primary tool for communication online and is practically necessary. But with gaming online it’s always important to take the time and teach your kid about being safe online; don’t give people your real name, or where you live, or anything like that. But as long as they are safe and they stay away from certain spaces online, they can potentially have a lot of fun!

In all, there are a lot of good gifts for a gamer kid, but it is ultimately up to you to choose the best one for your child. I trust your judgement.

If you’re interested in playing games with your kid, here are good games to play with them! And for a recommendation, Tunic is a cute little game that your child might even like.
