Buying regular Christmas gifts can be hard, add a gamer into that mix and things turn confusing. We’ve broken down the best gamer Christmas presents and linked examples to put the fun back into Christmas shopping! From headsets to accessories, we’ve got you covered.
When buying a new headset it’s essential to do thorough research and confirm you’re spending your money on the right one. But as someone unfamiliar with gaming how do you know which is the right one?
With headsets it’s important to pay attention to three things, overall durability, comfortability, and sound quality. If you don’t you can end up with a headset that breaks after a couple months, a headache, and an inability to hear the important sounds, like an enemy sneaking up behind you.
Now we’re sure you’re asking how you’re meant to know how good the sound is or how comfortable it is through a screen. That’s where TikTok and user reviews come in. If you look up most headsets on TikTok you’ll be able to find a video of it being reviewed and a comment section full of others who have tried it out. Furthermore on the product’s page user reviews will be able to tell you if the headset is bad or not.
For a cheaper headset we recommend the HyperX Cloud II headset. For a more expensive, and pretty, headset we recommend the Logitech G733 headset. Another popular option is any Turtle Beach headset, which vary greatly in pricing depending on the pair. They tend to hold great Black Friday sales just in time for Christmas shopping.
Unfortunately unless your gamer is using an external mic, attached mic quality will always be rough. However external mics are just an added expense and mostly unnecessary for more casual gamers, so when shopping pay attention to reviews about the headset’s mic quality.
For non-PC gamers, a good controller is absolutely imperative. Functionally, all gaming controllers operate the exact same, as there’s usually only one model option which comes with the console. The problem is, that controller generally comes in either black or white, which we think is a shame. They get the job done sure, but where’s the fun?
Aesthetically a cool controller is an easy way to upgrade the gaming experience. The Xbox Design Lab offers the ability to fully customize all nine parts of a controller, even giving you the ability to add an engraving. This can get pricey but as long as it isn’t chucked at a wall, Xbox controllers last a lifetime.
Trust us, the excitement your gamer will exude on Christmas when told they get to fully customize a controller will be worth the money.
Now on to two completely unnecessary but incredibly unique gaming accessories, the Divoom Times Gate and Ditoo-Pro, both of which are very popular on TikTok.
Divoom calls the Times Gate a “Pixel Art Informative Display” which is fancy talk for a really cool desk accessory. Pictured above on the right, it features 5 customizable screens that can be changed using the app to display whatever you want, a clock, pixel art, social media, etc. The lights are also fully customizable giving you the ability to match it to your setup. It’s $189.99 which we’ll admit is outrageously expensive but it's completely unique and incomparable to anything else on the market. It’ll instantly upgrade your gamer’s setup and if you catch it at the right time, it does go on sale.
Picture above on the right, Divoom’s Ditoo-Pro is a “Retro Pixel Art Bluetooth speaker.” Its screen can be changed on the app to display a large array of available pixel art, even giving you the ability to make your own. At $139.99 it’s an awfully expensive and tiny speaker but it’s just so cute. Again if you catch it on sale, it’s still expensive but moderately more justifiable.
Customizing a keyboard is a dream for any PC gamer. Buying a whole new keyboard is expensive, but replacing the caps is far cheaper and allows for an easy keyboard revamp. Keyboard caps are offered in a vast array of styles with varying prices.
If you're looking for a quick and cheap option, searching “cool key caps from Amazon” is an easy way to get recommendations and visual reviews all in one place. The Purple Amazon set pictured above on the right comes in 15 different styles, offers 2-day delivery, and costs $26.54.
If you’re looking for a cuter option and are willing to pay a bit more, Akko offers a range of unique and undeniably adorable keycap sets. They currently offer 36 different set options, ranging from Buns, as pictured above on the left, to Racoons. At $45.99 they look and sound great offering a fun and easy way to customize your gamer’s setup.
A cute and functional way to customize, and organize, your gamer’s set up is buying them a controller/headset holder. These holders range from decorative to plain and can be given by itself or paired with a new controller or headset. There are tons of options available on Amazon including the Master Chief and Light Up options pictured above, offering quick shipping and user reviews.
Another cute and functional Christmas gamer gift is a wrist rest for their keyboard or mouse. At $7.99 the duck mouse wrist rest pictured on the right is the perfect stocking stuffer and is available in 13 different animal options. Incredibly popular on TikTok, the cloud keyboard wrist rest pictured on the left comes in 6 color options to match to you gamer’s set up.
A mouse, another essential piece of equipment for any PC gamer. As with console controllers, many gamers often settle for a boring solid color mouse, unaware of the world of options out there. The company Akko, mentioned above in the keycaps section, offers unique mice like the Calico Cat and Cinnamoroll ones pictured in the first two photos above. At $29.99 the plug in Calico Cat mouse is a cheaper option while at $59.99 the wireless Cinnamoroll mouse is a more expensive option.
As an alternative, Amazon offers tons of great mouse options that provide user reviews. With 4,600 ratings and 4.5 stars, the Amazon mouse pictured above on the right, comes in black and white, and offers a full spectrum of backlight color options. While this is a plug in mouse, Amazon also offers great wireless options, some from large gaming companies like Logitech.
Of course, no gaming setup is complete without a keyboard mat or mouse pad. It’s a cool and functional way to add some art to your gamer’s set up. There are two size options available when looking at mouse pads, ones for keyboards and ones for mice. Some gamers use both while others opt for just one.
Wishaven offers super cute options at a reasonable price with the Capybara mat pictured above going for $19.99. Etsy offers a wider array of art styles including the Star Baby one from MilkyTomato pictured on the right, and even photo customizable ones.
That’s all for this week. Let us know in the comments below if your gamer enjoyed any of these gifts for Christmas!
